On again, off again

After no running for nearly 2 months, reality set in. I dropped down from the half to the 5k. I can honestly say it was the smartest thing I've done in a while.
I finished in 37:12. Not fast, and yes there were some walk breaks, but finished solidly in the middle of the pack. 90/183 women in the 40-49 age group.
I'll take it!

Lead legs

Another struggle run. Thought I was mentally ready, but the body fought me literally every step. Leg felt like lead- even after an extra rest day. 
And when my body started rebelling, the mind followed suit. Blech
But on a positive note- I finished it. Once again not pretty, but got it done. 
Keep focused on the goal race in September

Time flies

Just completed my third run of week 6 training. 
5 miles in 1:02:06
Not a rocket pace, but pleased as my PR for a 10k is 1:01
maybe this run/walk business will work. 
For the longer runs I have been pushing in the first half of the run. So today I started by running 6 min walking 2.  I was able to do that for 5 intervals and ten switched to the scheduled, run 3 walk 2.
I kept this at 5.5-5.6 mph so I wouldn't feel like I was dying towards the end. 
Was definitely tired, but am pleased with my overall effort.

Legs felt like lead as I started my run last night

7 intervals- 2 min run, 2 min walk @3.5 mph

Run 3x @5.5 mph, 2x @5.7mph, 2x @5.9 mph

2.3 miles in 30:04 minutes

slow but steady progress.

Week 2 & 3

Two training days and replaced the long run with a family hike near Upper Kananaskis Lake.

Week 3 training started with 7 intervals 2 min run, 2 min walk
running done at 5.5 mph and walking at 3.5 mph

Did- 2.3 miles in 29:56.  Slowly but surely...

Week 1 of Training is in the books

and I pleased to say I survived!

I'm trying a run/walk program that I found on Women's Running Magazine Website
It's their 20 week couch to half-marathon program.

I've run the distance before, but am focusing on getting back into running and reduce any PF flares.

This week - I ran 3 times.
2 workouts of 30 minutes using run 1 min, walk 2 min.

And today's workout was 3.1 miles (5 km) using run 1 min, walk 2 min.

Started the runs at 5 mph and increased to 5.6 mph
Walks were done at 3.4 mph

14 intervals total for 3.27 miles- it is a start.

Back to it


Hooray- the treadmill is fixed. And today is the first run since mid- December due to a huge plantar fasciitis (PF) flare after attempting to play some a friendly parents vs. kids soccer game with my daughter's tream.
At least I think it's PF. It could be heel spurs, but I'll just continue to roll and use my heel inserts. New shoes might help. Currently switching between New Balance 860 v 3 & Altra Torins. The NB are worn, but I'll need to save for the v. 6's.  Bonus round- found my missing tube of Nuun so was able to hydrate with that on the treadmill!
